“Security override. Front door unlocked,” chimed the female voice of the automated security system.
“What the…?” Madic Fage started abruptly, spinning around on his penthouse living room sofa just fast enough to catch sight of a shadowy blur rushing toward him and slamming something hard across his face, knocking him forward onto the coffee table.
Blood spurted from Madic’s nose as his six foot, two hundred and thirty pound body crashed down onto and collapsed the table’s wooden frame. He barely had a moment to recover from his daze as he lay with one side of his face pressed against the carpet. Out of the corner of his left eye, he watched as the slender figure of what appeared to be a woman catapulted over the sofa and onto his back, straddling him. He grunted furiously as she jammed a gun into his temple.
“E’rika! You vanking bitch…!”
Madic howled in agony as his attacker pulled the trigger of the gun she gripped in her other hand, blowing off two of the fingers on his right hand.
“I highly recommend you choose your next words carefully, Madic,” E’rika leaned down and hissed coldly into his ear. “You and I have never been friends and I have no problem playing ‘This Little Piggy Waved Bye-bye’ until all your fingers and toes are gone.”
“What the vank do you want?” Madic writhed but knew better than to try anything with a gun barrel staring him in the face. “I thought you were….”
“Dead…?” E’rika cut in, venom dripping from her voice. “That’s exactly what I came here to talk to you about. So it looks like we’re off to a good start. Was it you or Xan who set me up in Trikeshla? Who’s idea was it and why?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, you vanking…!”
Madic screamed again. Two more fingers from his right hand were instantly and unceremoniously erased , leaving behind only a ragged thumb.
“Yes, yes. I know. It hurts,” E’rika soothed mockingly as she kept one gun pointed at his head while tapping the nozzle of the other against his right elbow. “But if you weren’t such a slow learner and just answered my question, you might still have had a shot at taking my place at Xan’s side. As things presently stand, I think you’re looking at early retirement. Now…let’s try again before you bleed out, shall we?”
